What are the types of mild steel?

Hari om, you are asking a question as to : What are the types of mild steel?. Hari om. ANSWER : WHAT ARE THE VARIOUS TYPES OF MILD STEEL? Carbon steel is an alloy which is made up by the mixture of carbon and iron with other impurities such as Si, Mn, P, and S . In addition, several other elements with low maximum percentages are also included, such as manganese, with 1.65% maximum, silicon, with .60% maximum, and copper, with .60% maximum , besides Sulphur & Phosphorous not exceeding .06% maximum each . Depending upon the amount of the presence of the Carbon in the Steel , Carbon steels can be classified into 4 different categories as follows : Low Carbon Steels : Composition of .05%-0.25% Carbon and up to .4% Manganese. Also known simply as mild steel, it is the least expensive material that is easy to make/shape. While not as hard as the higher-carbon steels, the components made by mild steel could be modified by carburizing which can increase its surface hardness. Medium Carbon Steels : They have a Composition of .29%-0.54% Carbon, with .60%-1.65% Manganese, besides other impurities. Medium carbon steel is ductile and strong, with long-wearing properties. High Carbon Steels : They have a Composition of .55%-0.95% Carbon, with .30%-0.90% Manganese. These steels are very strong and hold shape memory well, making them ideal for items of springs and wires . Very High Carbon Steels : They have a Composition of .96%-2.1% Carbon. Their high C arbon content makes them as extremely strong materials. However, due to their brittleness, these grades require special handling during processing . The Lower Carbon steels are softer and more easily formed, while steels with higher Carbon content are harder and stronger, but less ductile, and also they become more difficult to machine and weld.
